Conference Outline
Air pollution can have significant if not
fatal effects on human health. Pollution
generated by transport, in particular
Particulate matter (PM) and Nitrogen oxides
(NOx) is one of the main concerns of the
European Union and by consequence one of
the challenges cities have to face to improve
air quality.
The management of urban transport and the
related impacts on the environment is one of
the cornerstones in the context of sustainable
urban development. The European Union is
setting the scene by a multitude of regulations
and initiatives. Two important examples are
the recently adopted new directive on air
quality, known as the CAFÉ DIRECTIVE, and the
Green Paper on Urban Transport.
PARFUM results for your benefit
The real challenges for cities are the
identification and implementation of the right
concepts and practical solutions to reduce
transport emissions. This is a field where the
PARFUM project results offer a contribution.
Within the Life-PARFUM Project, considerable
effort has been made to comply with the
challenging goal of a better air quality in urban
environments and we want to share our
experience with you for the benefit of all.
The project has implemented and evaluated a
set of practical solutions to reduce the impact
of freight- and public transport focusing on the
most critical components Particulate matter
(PM) and Nitrogen Oxides (NOx) which are
mainly emitted by heavy- and light duty
vehicles and buses.
